Wow, I finally saw ET. I’m a bit behind on my movie watching A funny thing happened while I was watching the film and taking photos as proof that I watched it. The face recognition on my digital camera did not pick up ET’s face.

Syriana

Playing at the Nugget, this film is difficult to watch at times, deeply moving and gripping for 126 minutes. It is filled with emotion, and none of it gratuitous. At the surface this film is about oil and the oil fields of the Persian Gulf. But it is about so much more than that. Syriana is about idealism, simplicity, poverty and wealth. Syriana is a kaliadescope of people struggling and striving for something that gives meaning and purpose to their lives. If you want a feel-good movie, this one isn’t it.
March of the Penguins

This film is a must see. I actually started thinking about how we as humans are still a bit like wild animals. Not that you or I haven’t thought of this before, but seeing the film brought it up again. That we build these ways of living that keep us alive and healthier and certainly living much easier than what the penguins have to go through. But we can and do get picked off by predators, or illness, or severe weather (on my mind now that I’m in New England). So it’s just another reminder for me to be mindful and live in the moment.
