Garbage

When was the last time you thought much about your garbage? Really, do you think about it much? When you live in a rural areas garbage could easily be quite a chore to take care of. I could have signed up for trash pickup service for $35/mo. But I wanted to fully experience living here and have opted to take my own trash to the landfill. I’ve never been to a landfill before and imagined a big pit you’d drive up near and drop in your bags while trying not to dump you car as well.

Well, it took me all of three weeks to find the local accessible landfill in the nearby town of Lebanon. But in order to use the landfill I had to go to my local library or town hall and buy tickets for $1.25 each. Then at the landfill I had to show them my car registration so they knew I was from a town they have an agreement with, and they gave me a car window sticker for easy access on future visits. So what happens to people whose towns do not have their own landfill, or an agreement with a neighboring town? hmm, makes me think of the occasional trash bag I’d see on highways.

One ticket is approximately one 32 Gal trash bag. Most of the time I expect my trash will cost me 1/2 ticket to dispose of. Makes you want to recycle doesn’t it. My local town picks up for free plastic and paper for recycling. They pick up much more than the city of Pittsburgh does.

First trip’s load headed for the landfill. The next trip I had only one small bag.

Why am I spending this time telling you how we handle garbage? Think about it. Do you know what happens to your refuse?

Clean Clothes

Nice used addition to my basement looks similar to this unit and makes it easy for offspring to bring laundry ‘home’.

Shaun of the Dead

Can hardly believe it myself that I just went to see the zombie film Shaun of the Dead! It was one of the Dartmouth Film Society selections. My recommendation is, that depends.
